Councillor Lowles Awarded With Honorary Citizenship by Liaocheng City

Ляочен - это один из городов-побратимов у Блэктауна.

Councillor Charlie Lowles of Blacktown City has been awarded an Honorary Citizen of Liaocheng City in acknowledgment of his contribution to Liaocheng City, one of Blacktown City's Sister Cities.

The Honorary Citizenship was commissioned in recognition of the contribution made by Councillor Lowles to the development of Blacktown's Sister City relationship with Liaocheng City.

"Councillor Lowles has been an outstanding representative for the people of Blacktown City and has played a pivotal role within Council and in the strengthening of our relationship with our Sister City, Liaocheng City", Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Alan Pendleton said.

Blacktown City officially formalised a Sister City Relationship with Liaocheng City in 2003. It is aimed to further stabilise friendship and co-operation between the two cities and to promote mutual development.

Earlier this month, Blacktown City Council sent a delegation to visit two of Blacktown City's Sister Cities, Liaocheng in China and Suseong Gu in Korea.

On the visit a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Blacktown City Council and Liaocheng Local Government for the design of an authentic 2,800 square metre Chinese Garden at Nurragingy Reserve, Doonside.

The design of the Chinese Garden is estimated at $300,000, a cost that will be covered by the Liaocheng Local Government.

Whilst in Suseong Gu, the City donated 200 Korean books for the Blacktown City Libraries.

Both Sister Cities also reached agreements to enhance friendship ties and economic and trade exchange between the people of the two cities, and to develop and assist the development of cooperation in areas of agriculture, industry, commerce, tourism, technology, culture, health and education.

"The visit provided the opportunity to develop future student exchange, as well as strengthen economic, cultural and sporting ties between Blacktown City and two of our Sister Cities", Mayor Pendleton said.

Между прочим, Казань - первый город по значимости и величине в Татарстане, 8-ой по России. А Челны - второй после Казани по Татарстану город. Интересно, Ляочен жертвует в Челны китайские книги и обменивается студентами с Челнами? :-)
