i can agree with you in principle, but when it comes down to it, i hate the idea of people using the internet to look up shit. i think the government have an opportunity to set a good example with internet censorship policy. i do not expect that k rudd will get it 100% right, or probably even 20% right, but it's the jumping off point for better internet protection. i don't see that any kind of critical political blogs or anything will be shut down. if the government didn't want to be held accountable, they could start by scrapping the abc. we'll see, i don't know how much public support the move will get, and if it is unacceptable, the government will just have to change it. if it involves blocking 4chan, then i am all over it.
i agree 100% about the speeds, australia is already so far behind the rest of the world, and all the l33t gamers have trouble (not sarcastic) as it is. maybe if the government bothered to get fttn/ftth then it wouldn't be such an issue, but i fucking doubt they will. they will be much more keen to spend half as much money on a plan that barely increases internet speed by 10%. and ps if telstra do get the contract i will be so fucking livid, for 10000000 reasons the most important to me now being that they regularly leave people in the country without any mobile or landline service.
