I hope it's okay to friend you. Not only are you a SS/HG believer, which would perfectly suffice to friend you but you're a beta reader as well. What's more, you offer constructive advice. I really like that. Fun was had by me during the reading of your post. :-)

I don't think saying "this is bad" without an explanation is necessarily conducive to the author's writing or ego. Actually, saying "this is bad" isn't all that conducive, either. I would personally recommend, "I think you could do better with some polishing."

;)

And listen, missy, that isn't a case where the passive voice would be allowed. ;P

You know, my mind is divided over the "this is bad" issue... I'd say it's beta to hear this from a beta than from a moderated archive. ;-) But yes, your latter suggestions has a lot more merit, although it's likely to cause you more work because the author is likely to be spurred on to write more, LOL.

I didn't think passive voice should be allowed in that particular case *snerk*. I just wanted to make sure I fully comprehend the passive voice. The post on passive voice was written well enough for even the dimmest dunderhead to comprehend. :-)

Good, so I don't have to worry about Ron writing an essay in all passive voice to sound intelligent?

(Much to Wonderful's chagrine, he's so not my favorite.)

OMG, I see I need a beta for posting comments now! *looks horrified*

No, worry not about Ron writing, essays or anything else. I have a funny relationship with Ron. I do like him in canon, I honestly do. But in my stories he tends to end up the prat, LOL. He's so easily baited, though, it's too much fun to write him that way.
