There is something oddly wonderful about watching the world wake up as you are desperately trying to win a few hours of sleep. Damn jetlag!
As I am currently aawke at 8:30 AM becuase I have given up on sleep for today, I will now fill you in on the happenings of the past month. And since I am currently reading Memorias Posthumas de Blas Cubas, it will be in reverse, with no particular order (or something like that). Well I had a great evening after I woke up at 5:30 PM from a 14 hour coma. Went to the milkshake place and and met up with Hannah, Emily, Craig, and later saw Laura and her boyfriend Nick . It was nice to see my 'lence friends again and hear about their crazy adventures over Christmas Break. Emily and Hannah came over for dinner after that and we had a very tasty prawn stirfry.
The trip back to Valencia was like a 10K marathon with an obstical course at the very end. Only I did it all on 6hrs of sleep. The flight to Chicago was uneventful and I napped a bit. Had a bit of trouble trying to find my gate for the flight to Dublin since I was flying Aer Lingus and they are in different terminal from American Airlines. Had enough of a layover so that I got there with plenty of time. The plane was a bit late taking off from what I could gather were techincal difficulties. The flight itself was not bad at all and after the transatlantic coming to the States, was downright paradise. I switched with a woman so she could sit next to her husband and ended up siting at the very back of the plane next to a cool guy from the north of Ireland. He's attending college in Northern Ireland, and is in a hard rock bad. We ended up talking the whole flight which definitely made the time pass a lot faster ( Material Girls with Hillary Duff help with that too I guess). I didn't sleep on that flight, but got about 2 hours of sleep (can you tell that I'm a bit obsessed with sleep at the moment?)in the Dublin airport durring my 8 hour layover. I also bought a change purse on sale.
The last few days while i was home I didn't really see anyone becuase I think it was a bit to intense for me. I have definitely changed over the past few months, and having to reconcile that with my old perceptions and habits that Norman brings out was very intense. I'm sure the move didn't help with that either. I am an adult in both age and mental state (albeit young adult). I still want most of the same things, but for different reasons, and I plan to attain them in different ways. I was very glad to see everyone, and although we did't get to hang out as much as i would have liked, I still really enjoyed the time we did have. i'm sorry that I didn't get to see some people though.I also discovered that I'm not a partier when all people do is try to get drunk. It'll be nice when we can all sit down for a dink at a bar and just chill, or go dancing and have a good time out, not afraid the cops might come.
Ruby ran away.
I went to the library with Becca and checked out about 30 books. She did homework as I ran around the dark recesses of deck 6. I don't understand half of what some of my professors say, so i figured that if I could find some of the cooks they were referencing, I could maybe have something to write on the test so I would fail. Don't tell, but some of the books made their way with me to Valencia. I will return them on time (hopefully) in the condition in which I found them (some of them were in poor condition when they came into my posession). I also went to the mall with Becca and bought some jeans and the perfect shade of red lipstick.
I picked out my curtains on friday. They are going to be pink.
The move was a crazy! we packed up the whole of the old house in three days and moved. I don't think I've been so utterly exhausted in a very long time. The new house is great, apart from no DSL. I cannot express in words how wonderful it is to see a project that has taken so much time and energy be finnished and look even better than I could have imagined. I love the house!
Christmas day was very nice and relaxing which was exactly what I needed. In the morning the family opened presents. I got many nice things, but my favorite presents are a little digital camera that can go with me anywhere, and a Eurail pass. I can now document every moment of my travels all over Europe. Had a very nice christmas dinner. The next day we started packing.
The airline lost my luggage between Miami and Oklahoma City. I had to register the lost luggage with the airline so they could deliver it. I felt for the man who was having to work on christmas eve. It was midnight and he was having to deal with irate, exhausted passengers, trying to explain why out of millions of bags that are handled every day theirs was the one that didn't reach its destination. I wasn't mad. Things like that happen, and I was just so happy to see my family.
The flight home was long, but overall, unevenful. On the transatlantic flight I had the worst headache of my life. It was so painful, I couldn't see well out of one eye, and I felt ill. Luckily the nice Chilean girl who is studying for her masters in Paplona, gave me some painkillers, and I felt fine after that. on the flight from Chicago to OKC, I sat next to this cool guy who is living in Baltimore teaching in a community theatre program and doing the ighting design. He too was going home to visit family for chirstmas, and the Christmas Eve flight was the cheapest. I also had a neat chat about international affairs from the Barista at the Sarbucks in the concourse G Starbucks in Chicago. He wasn't working when I was going through there on my way back to Spain or I would have said hi. It is amazing the interesting people one can meet while traveling.
My alarm rang a few minutes ago, so i need to get going to class, and pretend that I can function normally on no sleep.
the city really is beautiful in the morning.
