I'm sitting in the mall of the Phoenix Sky Harbor airport. It was very last minute, but I swapped my spring break plans to come here this week due to spring break blackouts.
I must say that much to my suprise I loved Arizona. The dry, easy-to-breath air, the desert scrub brush and cacti, the amazing mountains and rock formations. This place is a modern, American city in a beautiful landscape. I'm sorry to leave it because, well, unless you're in the very southern parts of florida, my home state is ugly as hell.
This weekend was one of the best times I've ever had. I came in wednesday night and went to stay at
raspberryroo's apartment. She was kind enough to let me crash at her place this weekend. On thursday we went to the phoenix zoo, which is a great place. They're really into art and asetitics there. I loved it. I got a behind the scenes with the off-exhibit black footed ferrets, and I touched a squirrel monkey and a shark! After the zoo we went back home and watched a movie while I worked on homework. Friday was relaxing. We went to visit Raz's mom and her german shepard pup, then attempted to go eat at a resturant. Turns out they had almost no kitchen staff and we had to leave without any food or drinks. The drive up to Canyon Lake was so worth it, though. The mountains were beautiful at sunset. That night we hit up lasertag with
_taren,
semjay,
raspberryroo, Tally and Tabbi. I'm a big lasertag fan and don't play it too often so that was sooo much fun. It was a laserquest too, which have amazing arenas.I even won and placed in the high scores of the day!
After lasertag we ate at Red Robin which have fuckin' amazing burgers. Tabbi was kind enough to pay. Thanks! :)
Saturday we went to the Arizona Renissance Festival.
aryte was even able to come out! It was a great faire, with permanent buildings and a wonderfully open layout. I never felt crowded. And with the sand colored mountains all around us? It was crazy breath taking.
And now here I am. At the airport with PADS. (Post Arizona Depression Syndrome) I'll miss this place.
Its really nice to travel outside of cons. No suits, no hotel rooms, more relaxing time and interaction with friends. I hope to start cutting back on cons and doing more of this in the future.
