Stolen from frozen_delight. Pick a number (or numbers), and I'll answer. I'd love for other people to do this as well. Also, feel free to ask the questions about art as well as writing.

1. Describe yourself how you would describe a character you’re introducing.2. Is there any specific ritual you go through while/before/after your writing ( Read more... )

4. There's no way I can make a complete list, so I'll stick to a handful of people who are not on my flist whose work I admire desperately. In terms of writers, here are a few: Darth_mallow, who writes wonderful Hunger Games AUs. Copperbadge, who is just a damned good writer all around in a number of my favorite fandoms. Kellie Matthews, whose due South stuff is some of my favorite in that fandom (the fandom that first got me into slash in the first place). Art-wise, the first person who pops into mind is petite_madame - her technical skill is amazing, and I love that she can go from cutesy to hot to angsty. Another is bflyw, whose can do utter magic with photos.

9. (Edited because I picked the wrong damn question). I absolutely plan to do more than fanart. I've got some paintings in progress, and a couple of things that are on my to-do list. I do hope to go at least semi-pro with the art at some point, and have vague dreams of eventually doing a webcomic. As for writing, I'm not sure if I will ever do anything besides fanfic. It all depends on whether or not the right idea for something not only hits me but sticks with me.

Do you have links to darth mallow or copperbadge? I'm always looking for more (well-written) stuff to read.

I often think that success in the arts is more a matter of stubbornness and opportunity rather than skill and talent (especially when I see some of the movies that get released, or read some of the books (*koff*50shades*koff*) that get published.

So keep producing your art, and good luck finding your opportunities.

Sorry for the late reply, but when I went to check my bookmarks, I found out that it was deathmallow, not darthmallow. Argh. Anyhow, their stuff is here: http://archiveofourown.org/users/deathmallow/pseuds/deathmallow

Also, I agree that stubbornness and opportunity play a big part in artistic success. The other thing? Is business sense. My dad became a professional artist late in life, and he said that one of the things that let him go pro was that he had experience running his own business and was able to avoid a lot of headache and heartache thanks to understanding contracts, forecasting, taxes, etc.

OMG, yes!

There are so many "official" things to consider. Even if you don't know what they are, they still apply and can (probably will) bite you in the behind.
