Haiti

Rare public post from me.

Unless you've been under a rock or intentionally ignoring the news, you've heard about the disaster in Haiti. Reports say that hundreds of thousands of people are injured or dead. On the news this morning, I heard a relief worker say that essentially, the two million people of Port-au-prince are homeless. In this post, I'm going to compile a list of links for charity and relief efforts.

Firstly, Doctors Without Borders is on the ground providing medical care to the victims. Please consider making a donation to them, especially since not all of us can.

The Red Cross is also sending money, medical care and other forms of relief. They've even set up a way for you to donate via text.

BPAL and BPTP are donating all funds raised from the purchase of specific products to the relief effort. Details are on the websites.

Right here on LJ, help_haiti has been set up. People are offering things to bid on, from fanfic to crafts to drawing to I don't even know what else. If you can bid on an item, do it. If you have something to auction, donate it it.

CNN has compiled a list of charities and relief organizations. They also have set up a site for those trying to connect with loved ones.

Partners in Health is providing medical services to earthquake victims. Thanks to nihilistech for the link.

There are tons more, but I'm still combing through links and websites to see what's legitimate and what isn't. Will update this post as I find more.

Give your loved ones a hug and keep those who have lost their lives or who are still searching for loved ones in your thoughts. And, you know, spew some vitriol toward Pat Robertson if you're feeling so inclined.
