As the hostess walked away, Harry stood rooted to the spot, staring mutely down at Draco for what felt like a lifetime. He was stuck, his body unmoving.
This is where he could really use guidance from his father or godfather. He had no idea how to go about dating! Not that they could have helped him much with men, but still...
Draco's smile faltered and suddenly Harry snapped out of his trance.
"Er, hello. Sorry, I must confess I don't come to this type of place often."
"Well you can sit down, Harry. Upscale chairs don't bite, you know."

Blushing deeply, Harry took his seat across from Draco, whose smile had returned.
"Is that for me?" he asked, pointing to the orchid Harry held.
"Oh, yeah." Harry set the pot on the table. "Yeah it's a..."
"A Burnt Orchid, yes. Mother used to grow them in her gardens. She once confessed to me that she only bothered with them for Severus' sake."
"For Snape?" Harry asked, taken aback.
"Oh yes, didn't you know? Severus was my godfather."
Harry was surprised. Then he figured he should have guessed as much.
"We really were just destined to hate each other then."

Draco's face fell once more and Harry backpedaled immediately.
"I didn't mean now! I meant back in school. It seems we didn't have a chance. Our godfathers hated each other; it was practically in our blood! I don't hate you anymore you know, in fact I think you're quite..."
Harry's rambling was luckily interrupted by the waiter taking their drink orders. Harry hoped he could change the subject when he left; maybe they could discuss the latest Quidditch match?
But then..."What were you saying, Harry? I believe you were about to confess your feelings for me, were you not?"

Harry could have skated around the truth and simply told Draco he thought he was nice or something equally lame, but felt that would be unfair. Channeling the recklessness of another dark-haired Gryffindor, he met Draco's amused eyes.
"I like you, Draco. A lot. You're smart, sophisticated and bloody gorgeous as hell. We have so much in common and I'd very much like to get to know you better."
Feeling strangely empowered after his confession, Harry took a sip of his wine and was pleased to note Draco's dazed expression. Maybe this dating thing wasn't so hard after all.
