The Wedding Singer

And I'm not talking about myself or Adam Sandler!  So we went to my cousin's wedding in Baguio, which was lovely.  A good time was had by all...

Baguio is a beautiful city, with a climate much like Vancouver's in the summertime, including coniferous trees which are normally absent from the Filipino landscape.  It's a mountainous area, so the climate is automatically cooler than in the surrounding areas.  The wedding was at Our Lady of Atonement Cathedral, and the reception following was located at Camp John Hay. Camp John Hay used to be the old stomping grounds of the American military when their presence was still required during WWII.  It was handed back to the Filipino government in the '70s and since then they've turned it into a US resort paradise, including the very expensive US-priced hotel aptly named The Manor.  It was here where we stayed with my cousin and her family in a large suite.  Although the suite had two large bedrooms and a separate living room and dining room, the place was packed full of various relatives over the course of the weekend.

I see my cousins about once every three years or so, so it was great to reconnect yet again.  Their home is now New Jersey, but they grew up in Baguio and two of the three siblings hadn't been back in 16 years.  I also met their cousin Maki, who actually lives in Vancouver!  So now we have another extended family member close by.  We had a blast goofing off at the wedding and going to the mall in Baguio.

And the wedding singer turned out to be...the groom!  As the bride started to walk down the aisle at the church, suddenly the groom had a microphone in his hand and began serenading the bride.  And it continued later at the reception where he broke into song with the band and eventually took over as the lead singer for the later part of the night.  What can you expect from a karaoke junkie, I suppose :)  All in all, it was very romantic.

Now we're back in San Fernando, trying to figure out where to head next.  The weather and various other circumstances has forced us to adjust our travel plans so we'll probably head back to Manila tomorrow or the next day.  We were going to head to the famous rice terraces of Banaue, but it will just have to wait for later I guess...

much love as always :)
