The time is not my own...

Travelling with the family is always a little challenging.  It would be nice to say that I have lots of free time while I'm on vacation, but my relatives and immediate family own about 95% of that time.  That being said, it still beats being at school or at work!

We got out of Boracay with no problems, and the day before we left, the weather started improving ever so slightly.  We still had a few brownouts while we were there, but at least it wasn't a typhoon or a cyclone!

So we've been in Manila for the past three days.  We were supposed to leave to head north to my mom's home province of La Union, but apparently they've had their share of tropical storms and they've lost power in the area for the last 24 hours.  Tomorrow morning we'll be heading up by bus, hopefully the conditions will have improved by then.

There's so much more that I need to write, but it's already late here and we have to be on the bus early tomorrow.  Curse you lack of free time!!

Last thought of the evening: there are so many beautiful buildings and complexes here, most of them malls as that is the national pastime.  It's as if you are in the middle of this bizarre high-tech Shangri-la, complete with trees and grass and fountains.  But mere blocks away, you're back in the slums of Manila.  And the slums in Manila can definitely compete with those of developing countries.  And even more mind-boggling is that many people who live in these Shangri-la areas have never seen the slums, even though they're in their own backyard.  Oh gated communities...

I will post again as soon as I can.  xoxoxoxo :)
