Life now
Coming up to the deadline for handing in work before my second Oslo-week this term. I'm wrtiting a reportage about Forus, a no-mans-land of huge outlets and oil company headquarters outside of Stavanger. My family lived there for a few years in the early nineties, and it's also the setting for one of my novels-in-progress. Because of the novel, which is in dire need of a long overdue rewrite, I thought it would make sense to reaquaint myself with Forus. In the process I've also gotten back in touch with one of my best friends from back in the day, who lives there again now. We've been mostly out of touch for the last few years, but I very much enjoyed seeing him again. We met because we went to the same gigs all the time, and now we're planning on going to a few gigs together again, the first being the Exploited (!) at the end of April. I saw them in London a decade or more ago, and they were awesome. Hoping they still are.
One of the reasons I've been rubbish at updating here is my hands are mostly busy knitting. Churning out scarves and jumpers at the moment, as if spring wasn't just around the corner. Actually, it seemed to have arrived earlier in the month, then one day: snow again. Blah. Still, heaps and heaps better than Darbu, which is snowy hell for ages.
Bought a little box which lets me watch all the films I download on the TV. Have been thoroughly enjoying the 40" film experience, watching "Ma Mere", "Inception" (I thought Leonardo De Caprio wasn't very good these days, and I was wrong), and, er, other films. Good to have such a brilliant memory. Oh yes, rewatched "In the Cut", and saw "Four Lions" which was pretty good if a bit low on the Chris Morris-factor. Will no doubt watch heaps more in days and weeks to come.
Also listening to lots of music in the daytime, and after Ulv goes to bed. Just now trying to catch up on Motorpsycho, who were thoroughly wonderful for the last hour or so of the gig here in December, when they played all old songs. Shame about the first hour or two, when they only played new stuff, which I have failed to get into. Seeing them again March 5th, in Oslo, and hope to be somewhat more familiar with their recent output by then. (By recent I mean post-2000, but I suspect they mostly play songs from the last album or two, which so far I've completely failed to connect with). Feels good to be going to gigs again, even if they're few and far between.
