[nobody knows me at all]

I realized this morning: I have no girl friends here.

I was sitting in my dorm at about noon, starting a friendship bracelet and telling myself that homework/practice/life could wait a few hours. I noticed that I was hungry. Yeah, three and a half hours after my coffee and donut this morning, makes sense. I turned to my enormous stash of ramen and suddenly understood that if I ate another bowl of instant noodles alone in my room this week, I was going to go stark raving mad and possibly overturn my wardrobe in a sodium-fueled berserker rage.

Solution: Call someone and meet for lunch! Yay! Social interaction! Decent food! Conversation! Expanded Social Links! Good idea!

I pulled up a list of people I could conceivably do this with. The list had six people on it. Five were dudes. Um. What?

This is unusual for me. I have mostly girl friends back home. I mean, I have guy friends, yeah, but in general I'm closer than close with the chicks in my life, and dudes tend to be acquaintances. Here? Other way around. Even in mixed groups of guys and girls, I find myself in the boys' group more than the girls'. (For fuck's sake, at GLBTF I spent half the evening CHATTING WITH THE GUYS. COME ON NOW.) I am trying to figure out why this should be, while trying to avoid explanations that are uncharitable to the gentlemen I spend my time with.

It was sad, though, because today I didn't want to hang out with a boy. I didn't want to say things that would get misconstrued or feel like I had to impress anyone. I just wanted to hang out with a girl for a few hours. I ended up exploring Norman's vintage clothing scene by myself, trying on cute things and not modeling them for anybody to squeal over, and with nobody to talk me into or out of buying pretty, useless things.

So! RESOLUTION FOR THE WEEK: Make some female friends! Hang out with Francesca! Invite Jessica back down for lunch again! Hit up that chick in my reading group! Invite the quartet out for funtimes! FORGE SOME SOCIAL LINKS AW YEAH.

edit:

SEE? Nobody talked me out of buying this pretty, useless thing! I still love it though
