★ Summary: Kai likes anything sweet but, most of all, he likes those plump lips of a certain someone that he keeps thinking of.
Kai likes candies and just about anything sweet that he can put into his mouth. If there’s anything that he’s guilty for, being a sweet tooth would be it. He has always been a sweet tooth ever since he was a child and he realizes way beforehand that it’s not bound to change any time soon. In hindsight, maybe growing up with a mom who bakes pastries and anything bad for the health of his teeth could have been the deciding factor to his addiction, but who’s he to deny himself of such tasty goodness? However, that’s not something of importance with the dilemma he’s facing now. Right before him stands piles upon piles of chocolates, cakes, candies and just about all of the sweets he can think of. It’s not a bad thing, per se, but it’s kind of a problem right now. Class is about to start in a matter of minutes and he doubts he’ll be able to sit in his seat right now with all of these sweets mounting on top of every available surface in his desk What was the occasion anyway?
Kai turns to his seat mate, “Hey, Sehun, what’s the occasion? Why did the girls dump all these sweets in my desk?”
Sehun stares at Kai unamused, “You idiot. I really don’t get what they see in you.”
“Hey, there’s no need for name calling!” Kai sputters. “Just tell me already!”
“Winter break is coming up soon in a matter of two weeks, and since they won’t be able to see your stupid face this Christmas, they’re giving you their presents in advance.” Sehun explains to the idiot who just stares blankly at him.
“Oh, really?” Kai says after finally understanding the circumstances.
“No, not really,” Sehun stoically countered, face blank except for the judging glint in his eyes. Kai, feeling irked, throws a chocolate bar at Sehun’s face.
Sehun blubbers out in indignation, “What the hell man!”
“Watch your language, Oh Sehun. This is an educational establishment, we prohibit students from saying inappropriate things here,” Their homeroom teacher Mr. Lu seemingly announces out of nowhere.
Sehun looks back to his homeroom teacher, “Oh, when did you come here, Lu Han?”
Lu Han rubs his face in irritation, “For the last time, Oh Sehun, call me Mr. Lu. I’m your teacher, show some respect!”
“Awww,” the whole class erupts, “don’t be like that Lu Lu. With your face looking so young, it’d be insulting to call you Mr. Lu at all.”
Lu Han gives his class the stink eye, “Just for that I’ll be assigning extra homework for today. Kim Kai, get rid of those sweets on your desk.” The students all groan, except for Sehun who’s giving a slight smirk and Kai who just stares at the ceiling exasperatedly. “Okay, open your books to page 178.”
“Dude, I admit I have a thing for sweets and all but this is just ridiculous. How am I supposed to carry all these home?” Kai whines as he heaves the heavy mountain of sweets, and stuffs it in his hefty backpack.
“I never thought I’d see the day Kim Kai would complain about receiving candies and chocolates.” Sehun states in disbelief.
“What if I’d be forced to dump all of these precious sweets in the trash bin just because I can’t afford to bring it home with me? Or worse, what if they expired before I get to eat them?! Oh, the horror!!!” Kai cries at the horrible thought.
“Of course, you’d be an idiot through and through.” Sehun sighs to himself.
School’s over and Kai roams around the Home Economics hallway, whistling a happy tune, his footsteps light despite the heavy burden in his backpack. Kai plans on just passing by to get to his locker to retrieve some of his candies stored there when he hears some clatter in one of the classrooms. He halts and attentively picks out where the noise is coming from, body going rigid at the thought that it might be the rumored ghost, but then he discards the thought away since it’s only four thirty in the afternoon. Surely, it can’t be that ghost. People mostly reported such sightings after the clock strikes six o’clock at night.
Kai stealthily approaches the baking room and sneaks a peek inside. He sees a petite figure rummaging through the cupboards. After seeing nothing supernatural going, he plans on going his merry way when the figure turns to his direction all of a sudden. Kai’s eyes widen and his breath hitches for a slight fracture of a second; in front of him stands Do Kyungsoo. The school’s famous ice prince, Do Kyungsoo, is standing in front of him with his stained apron, wrinkled brows, and icing at hand. Kai’s crush who is well known to be that serious student who rejects endless of love confessions coldly without batting an eyelash is baking a cake. Kai’s mouth hinges open as he takes in the scene right in front of him.
As he continues staring wide eyed at the boy diligently decorating the cake, he doesn’t notice the way his backpack is dangerously slipping through his shoulder. His backpack falls loudly on the ground, catching the attention of the doe eyed boy who was halfway done with his work. Kyungsoo looks to the half slid door and sees Kai standing idly behind it. His eyes bulged out and looks twice their normal huge size.
“Kim Kai!” Kyungsoo exclaims, hands curling into fists and not realizing how he just wasted a good amount of icing; thus, ruining his cake’s design. “Since when were you there?!”
Kai knows he should be scared with the piercing glare his sunbae throws at him after the shock dissipates. Nevertheless, all he could think of is the sweet melodic voice ringing through his ears and holy shit Kyungsoo knows his name! His crush knows who he is!
Instead of answering Kyungsoo’s question, Kai dumbly points his hand to the icing Kyungsoo’s crushing to death. “Sunbae, your icing’s dripping.”
Kyungsoo whips his head to look at the damage and groans loudly, voice reverberating around the semi-empty room. He does his best to salvage what he can, not minding the sore presence in the room who’s currently moving closer to where he’s at. “Look at what you made me do.”
As Kyungsoo starts cleaning up the mess, Kai feels guilty just looking, since he did cause it indirectly and so he assists with the process.
When the kitchen tiles were not sticky anymore from the icing, Kyungsoo stands upright and assesses Kai. “You, why are you even here right now? Shouldn’t you be at home by now?”
Kai scratches his head, “Well, I was just on my way to my locker and then go home but then I heard a noise leading to here. So, I naturally just went here?”
Kyungsoo glares at him, “Don’t end your sentence as if it’s a question unless it is one, Kim Kai.”
Kai straightens his back and obediently responses, “Yes, sunbae.”
Kyungsoo resumes icing his cake, “Quit calling me sunbae, it sounds too awkward. Just call me hyung.”
“Yes, sunbae. I mean hyung.” Kyungsoo sighs and Kai meekly laughs to fill the silence.
It’s only been a few minutes of no talking when Kai finally caves in to his whim. He’s really not used to the quietness and it scares him. “Sunb- Hyung, is there any way I can help you? I don’t feel right just standing here and watch you go on and about.”
Kyungsoo merely gives a glance his way for a second before focusing on his cake, “Well, why are you still here? I thought you were on your way to your locker?”
Kai knows he can go to his locker and proceed home already but it doesn’t quite settle right with him. There’s an unknown force beckoning him to stay and, well, he’s not really one to disregard his own instinct. “I kind of wish to stay here though,” he murmurs.
Kyungsoo stops his cake decorating for a moment and looks at Kai, trying to analyze the younger’s motive. Upon seeing no malice with the younger’s reasoning, he continues what he’s doing. “Suit yourself but I’m already putting on my final touches. If you want, you can find yourself a chair while I finish this. I can give you a slice afterwards.”
At the mention of eating the cake, Kai immediately took an empty chair and sits across the cake and the baker. Kyungsoo bites the inside of his lip in order to prevent the smile threatening to form at the younger’s antic.
It takes Kyungsoo ten minutes to finish icing the cake but Kai couldn’t really tell. He was busy gazing at the older’s hand delicately creating strokes and swirls along the surface of the pastry. He was mesmerized at the way simple lines could look so beautiful when done artfully. Not to mention how he was immersed at watching his sunbae’s ever so serious face. Now that he takes a good look at Kyungsoo, he can’t deny the older’s handsome face. Is it just him or does Kyungsoo look especially good looking with that tiny furrow in his brow?
Whoa, get a hold of yourself, Kim Kai! What the heck do you think you’re doing making googly eyes at the school’s ice prince? Are you out of your mind?
“Yah, Kim Kai, what the heck are you staring at?” Speaking of the devil, said senior is looking at him annoyedly with a bit of amusement dancing in his eyes.
“Nothing, hyung!” The younger replies a beat later than intended. He was just about to excuse himself to go home already, completely forgetting about the cake, when something catches him off guard. Right just above the corner of Kyungsoo’s lips rests a stray icing. How did that even get there? He supposes he might have been staring far too long again when the older sighs then proceeds to burn him with his glares. Kai doesn’t know what possesses him to lean closer to the older boy boldy, noticing how the senior’s eyes are widening even more so than normal and his breath slightly hitching. They were facing each other with just a breath away and he can’t help but feel excitement course through his body as he sees the shift of power. He’s the one wielding the power right now, it’s only a matter of split decision making whether or not he should tease, or actually kiss the frozen boy.
Oh, to hell with it, Kai thinks before diving in to press his lips against his sunbae’s. Kyungsoo’s lips are soft and plump, a smooth contrast to Kai’s slightly rough and chapped lips. He relishes the three seconds of the kiss and even though he knows he’s the one who initiated the whole thing, he seems to be the one who got his breath taken away. The moment their lips disentangle, the only thing running through Kai’s mind was Oh, shit! Run!
Kai can’t remember what exactly happened after his mind blanked out. After the thought of fleeing flashed through his mind, everything elses was a blur and all he knows is that he’s not inside the cooking classroom anymore. As of the moment, he’s inside some empty classroom a couple of rooms away from where Kyungsoo’s at. He leans against the sliding door and slides down until he’s sitting on the floor, his hand coming up to rest on his lips. He can still feel the light pressure that was pressed against it moments ago and he thinks he might be crazy for thinking that Kyungsoo’s lips tastes better than any sweets he’s ever had in his entire life. Yep, he’s going crazy alright.
One good thing about being a grade lower than Kyungsoo is that it gives Kai many chances to avoid encountering the senior. However, Kai also tends to forget that seniors and juniors share the same floor in the school building. The upperclassmen occupies the first half of the floor while the lowerclassmen takes the remaining rooms. By standard, each grade level should have a floor to themselves but there was a surplus of juniors and the opposite for seniors so they decided to half the seniors’ floor for the remaining numbers of juniors that couldn’t fit in their floor. Kai got splashed by this cold truth that slipped through his mind the moment he walked down the hallway for a bathroom break. He stops mid-step as he sees the side view of a certain senior with wide, doe eyes at the end of the hallway, where the restrooms are conveniently situated. Kai immediately turned around and hid behind a wall, clinging to it for dear life. What is he supposed to do now? He badly needs to go empty his bladder but that seems like an impossible feat with Kyungsoo blocking his path. Not to mention that the other restrooms are located downstairs on the first, second, and third floors, and, honestly, Kai doesn’t think he can last that long with the many stairs he has to go through.
What the heck, Kim Kai! Why do unfortunate things keep happening to you? Were you born under some unlucky star? Is that it? Without any choice left (or maybe he also just wants Kyungsoo to notice him), he dashes to the bathroom, seeing a slightly bewildered Kyungsoo through his peripheral view. After finally emptying his bladder, Kai goes out hesitantly, not sure what to expect. Will his sunbae be there waiting for him outside? Or will he find his sunbae nowhere to be seen, meaning to say the kiss didn’t bother the senior at all?
Kai’s mind was clouded with so many thoughts that it didn’t even register to him that he’s walking straight to someone, until he hits his head against the person’s forehead. He clutches his head, eyes crinkling from the pain. “Sorry, I wasn’t watching where I was going at all.”
“Clearly, you weren’t,” an amused voice that Kai’s familiar with says in reply. Kai looks up with a deer in the headlights look. He’s caught off guard and he really doesn’t know what to think of the smirk gracing Kyungsoo’s face. Is it a mocking smirk, or is it a friendly, amused kind? Kyungsoo strides with purpose, caging the younger in with no means of escape. “Were you perhaps avoiding me, Kim Kai?”
Kai stutters in response, “No, hyung, I wasn’t.” At the senior’s raised eyebrow he adds, “I really wasn’t!”
“Are you certain?” Kyungsoo sneers and the younger boy nods, “If that were so, how come you just took off with no preamble yesterday?” Kai is sweating bullets at the moment, eager to explain himself yet also not knowing how to save himself from shame and embarrassment. “Is it because you found it repulsing, the moment our lips touched?” There’s something akin to sadness and disappointment in Kyungsoo’s eyes and Kai shakes his head vehemently, denying such notion. The ice prince’s eyes lose its dull spark and Kai can see a sliver of hope glimmering in the older’s eyes. “Or is it perhaps because you’re scared I will reject your advances?” Kai stands rigid, and Kyungsoo’s smirk turns predatorial. “Did I hit a bull’s eye?”
Kai squeezes his eyes shut, lips quivering from anxiousness, “I’m sorry for the suddenness of the kiss yesterday, Kyungsoo hyung, but I’m not sorry for doing it at all.” He opens his eyes and looks straight at the senior, eyes defiant and determined. “I’ve liked you since the start, when you helped me on my first day of highschool. I don’t know if you remember, but I was running late so I missed the orientation and so I couldn’t find where my classes were. You were there and, although you could have turned a blind eye, you kindly helped me find my way through. It was during then that I started liking you. Even though your reputation dubbed you as someone with a cold heart, I know for sure that, beneath that ice prince facade, you have a warm heart.”
Kyungsoo steps back a little and scans the junior. “You know, you’re really chatty and cheesy when put under the pressure. I don’t like those kind of people.” Kai’s shoulders sag a little. “But, I guess it works if it’s you.” Kai stands straight and his mouth falls open at the sudden revelation.
“What?” He flounders like a fish out of water.
Kyungsoo merely taps his jaw, stating, “Close your mouth, a fly might come in. I wouldn’t be able to kiss you then if that ever happens.” He then walks away, leaving a baffled Kai who’s still in a daze, still not fully comprehending what just happened.
A few moments later when Kyungsoo’s out of sight and things just got digested by Kai’s slow brain, he breaks out in an idiotic smile, full with teeth and eyes crinkling with happiness. “Yes!”
Kai likes chocolates, cakes, candies and just about anything that tastes sweet. However, he finally reaches a conclusion that no matter how sweet and good pastries, and candies taste, there is nothing sweeter than Kyungsoo’s lips. He’s a certified sweet tooth but he’s even more addicted to a certain senior with wide, doe eyes and full lips that put all the sweets in the world to shame.
