24 1/2 Hours Without Power

Aug 15, 2003 20:12

Our power just came on this evening after 24 1/2 hours in the dark. The fridge needed some cleaning anyhow, so I took at least two bags of garbage down to the dumpster. Those fat urban racoons will feast like kings tonight!

I was supposed to be attending a good friend's wedding in Vancouver this weekend. I was basically on my way to the airport when all hell broke loose yesterday afternoon. I got on the phone and rescheduled my flight for this morning, but that didn't happen either. Other friends of mine attending the same wedding actually made the valiant, but futile trip to the airport this morning to catch their flight on a different air line. Upon arriving at the airport they were told any flights scheduled before 10 am were outright cancelled and that the earliest flight they could get was Sunday. Needless to say they turned around and went home.

Spoke to my friend in Vancouver and he completely understands. I guess its just disappointing for everyone involved. But hey, I am home safe and sound and I take that as a small blessing. I'd rather be home than in Vancouver woring about my wife.

I think I am going to go and read a book I bought a couple of years ago called "Why Things Bite Back -- Technology and the Revenge of Unintended Consequences" by Edward Tenner. It seems fitting in light of dependcy on technology.

Hope everyone else is safe and sound.
