Need Brains...In Port Dover

Heard this little tidbit on the radio today. Thought you Zombie Lovers and Port Dover fans might be interested in this one.

PORT DOVER -- Hollywood immortality of the undead variety awaits a lucky few at a movie casting call in Port Dover today.

Confirmation was received yesterday that film legend George Romero will shoot much of his next zombie movie in the lakeside community. For that to happen, he will need nearly 40 zombie extras to provide the horror that only the living dead can deliver.

Auditions for these parts will be held in Port Dover today. Donna Dupere of Canadian Film and Television Casting in Toronto will vet candidates beginning at 4 p.m. Dupere is on the lookout for men and women of all ages who can shuffle and lurch with the best of them.

ALL TYPES WANTED

"It's really all about movement -- people with the confidence to do the zombie movements and the screams and the dragging of the body," she said. "We're looking for all different types of looks."

Romero hasn't settled on a title for his latest film. Shooting begins in Port Dover this Sunday and is expected to wrap up Oct. 2. After that, more footage will be shot at Black Creek Pioneer Village in North York.

Romero's works include Night Of The Living Dead, Dawn Of The Dead and Land Of The Dead.

David Kent, administrative director of Theatre Norfolk in Simcoe, expects the audition to be well-attended.

Zombies may have lost their souls, but Kent says prospective extras who put a little thought into their audition stand a better chance of being selected.
