Oh yes, for me, this movie is all about the subtext. I didn't exactly love it the first time I watched it (I confess) but I was so caught up in the subtext that I was surprised by the way it ended... If people only see the mainstream "text" on the surface they won't understand what's so good about it. In my opinion, the fanfiction surpasses the movie because it focuses on the right things. :)
