I don't know if this is allowed or not, but if it's not, let me know and I shall delete this posthaste.  :D  Also please don't yell at me for asking - if you don't want to share, don't.

I don't have any SOA music or Nerdfighter music, except for Tom's Painfully Mainstream and wizardrock, and I would LOVE IT FOREVER if someone would upload ANY of ( Read more... )

The thing is, these guys aren't owned by some big record company, they aren't selling millions of copies, they don't have a contract to fall back on. They are relying on people buying this stuff to make a living, so that they can continue to make this their career.
If you want to try out the music, you can stream it from their websites most of the time. Tom has his up:

Alex does:

I don't know about everyone else apart from their youtube videos, but Alex and Tom have their full albums streaming. I know we're a downloading generation, but please realize that when you're downloading DFTBA artists, you aren't stealing from some big Warner Music company, you're pretty much stealing from them. I feel terrible saying this to you, because I understand what you're saying, but I would think that watching their blogs and getting to know them as people would make you think about the personal nature of this action. Please don't download DFTBA artists. The few sales that they get are what's keeping them going.
I don't think you're a bad person for asking this btw, I just beg of you to not actually do it. I know you're poor, we're all poor. But keep in mind that these artists aren't exactly raking it in either.

Okay, I specifically asked for people not to do this. Like, three times. =/ I am aware of all of these things, it's not news. I am not trying to steal from them - I clearly stated that I intend to buy their music when I have money, and I buy their t-shirts and whatnot when I can, and I watch their videos (which is a source of income, however much it may be) and link them and get them more viewers. I support them. And I intend to keep supporting them by buying subsequent CDs, t-shirts, concert tickets, whatever.

Besides, a lot of them have other jobs - most of them aren't living solely on their CD sales, and the ones that are are clearly doing a good enough job that they can afford it if someone uploads their albums. I'm sure they realize it's bound to happen. And again, I am going to buy the albums eventually. I would just like to hear them now. Is that really such a big deal?
