Guess who's back?

4:55 AM 7/17/06 · I realize the members of this comm are a mix of fans of the comics and some of just the televised shows. I'm sure there's even a fair mix of both as well as fans of the films. That said, if you guys aren't reading Green Lantern comics lately you're missing out on an interesting twist of Superman bad guy trickery.

A little back story, as brief as possible, for those not as familiar with the comics. A number of years back, Superman ran across his most powerful adversary ever...in the form of a monster named Doomsday. So powerful was he that Superman had to fully uncork his strength, having gotten used to holding back for so long, and their final blows killed them both. Ultimately, Superman recovered with the help of the Eradicator and the technology in the fortress but before that there were 4 individuals wearing the "
": Superboy (Conner/Kon·El), Eradicator, Cyborg Superman, & Steel. All but the last claimed to be Superman, so thoroughly changed because of the battle with Doomsday. Eventually the truth came out when the Cyborg Superman's true colors were revealed and the rest teamed with the real deal to bring him down.

The Cyborg Superman was once a human being named Henshaw who, thanks to events near identical as what empowered the Fantastic Four, died but not before his conciousness transferred to technology. Taking skin samples from the supposedly dead Man of Steel, Henshaw made himself a new body and got hold of technology that enabled him to merge and control any technology. In short, love to say that, he became all but indestructible...and believe me lots of people have tried to put him down for the count. The most powerful was Parallax, Hal Jordan gone bad and with all the power of the Guardians of the Universe, in a pursuit that breached the barrier between the DC & Marvel Universe, crossing paths with both the Silver Surfer & Thanos, and then back into their own universe.

Sometime after that, the Cyborg Superman found his way to the world controlled by the Manhunters. For those not familiar with them...they are android warriors that were originally designed by the Guardians of the Universe that went wrong; obviously before the Guardians created the Green Lantern Corps. It was a perfect match, the Manhunters accepting Henshaw and he now controls them...

...which brings us full circle to the present again. Not as short as I'd intended but I still think I've covered the basics. If you've been following the current run of Green Lantern then you'll have seen peeks of him, till he was fully revealed at the end of last issue. The most current is #12.
