A beautiful piece, and you've made very nice use of both Duane's worlds and Kushner's and Sherman's. The description of the King's run is wonderful, but the line I most love is this:

Behind his closed eyes tumble white Stars of Gondor, and when he opens them, the stars are still shining in Aragorn's eyes.

Gorgeous.

Yay, someone else who has read them! And ah, yes, that's one of my favorite lines too... if I can say that about my own piece! *grin*

Glad you liked this, and thank you!

Duane's Tale of the Five series were the first books I'd read where I pinged that the gay characters were very interesting to me. Swordspoint followed soon after.

Alas, it took me years and years after to discover slash, but at least I finally figured it out.

Quiteutterly wonderful. Incredible use of language and imagery that sucks us straight to the heart of their world. I love the Stag - Herne/Cernunnos? - and Faramir's nervousness at the morning after is so poignant a contrast against his devotion to King and Land and determination to complete the old rituals come what may. Brava!

I'm not sure about the Stag... him I took wholesale from Ellen Kushner. And Faramir's nervousness just seemed... right, I guess.

So glad you liked this--and thanks for my piece, I loved it! *grin*

Skillful, layered imagery - a lot to relish here that links past, present and future on a night when time and order are turned upside down.
