Weekend

Where on earth did the weekend go?  I haven't stopped moving all weekend, yet somehow I still didn't get done much of what needed to get done.

I had intended to paint our bedroom this weekend but only got the taping done.  Now, mind you, getting the taping done is a HUGE accomplishment.  I hate, hate, hate taping.  Seriously loathe taping.  But I got the taping done, so yay!  The hardware store is mixing our order of low VOC paint and it will be ready for pickup tomorrow.   We're doing accent walls so this will be kind of a big project.  I don't mind painting so much - especially with the promise of minimal stinky fumes! - but I don't like the scrubbing of brushes and rollers.  Since we're doing two colors (one light, one dark) I'll probably divide the job over two days to give the supplies a chance to dry out after washing.  If I wasn't so budget and environmentally conscious, I'd just buy a bunch of rollers, paint brushes and trays and pitch the used ones and start fresh for the new wall color.  But alas, our room is a fairly good size so I might as well make it a two day job.

My next painting project is the baby's room.  We chose a color and I picked up a sample to try on the walls.  I haven't had a chance to crack open the can and paint a wall or two, but I'm excited to get started.  I promised myself that I'd do our bedroom first... it's way more exciting to paint the baby's room than our room!  And really, if I started the baby's room first, I'd get all caught up in decorating the nursery and never get our room done.  Three years later, our baby would still have a fabulous room and our room would still be the same drab off-white that it has been since the day we moved in.  No thanks!  So the plan sticks - get the master bedroom done, then I can move on to the nursery.  Sort of like a reward system.

I picked about 6 pints of cherry tomatoes and 12 heirloom tomatoes tonight.  Gardening lesson for me for next year: never assume that something is not going to grow and then overcompensate by planting a gazillion of the same plant.  That's how you wind up with enough tomatoes to feed a small town every single day.  I love tomatoes, but this is getting ridiculous.   Tonight I made a huge batch of marinara with some of the tomatoes and a big bunch of basil from our back yard.  I felt ambitious so I then used the sauce (and some more tomatoes and basil) to make a lasagna.  It turned out really well, and I love that most of the ingredients were grown in our back yard.

It's only 9:15 and I'm ready for bed.  I think I'll go read for a while first...which usually means that I'll read, fall asleep, and then let Ed wake me up when he's heading to bed after midnight...

baby, house
