So I haven't posted in forever...
It always takes that bit of something that I don't particularly feel like doing at that exact moment to get me to do it, and there hasn't been something like that in a while. At the moment, it's twenty more pages out of "The Five Faces of Modernity" which is actually not all that uninteresting, but the author has been hammering the same point for the last ten pages and I'm getting a little sick of hearing about it (and hoping that it won't also be the point he hammers for the next twenty pages).
By the way, WHY is it that EVERYWHERE I go I see advertisements for little pink hearts and flowers and chocolates and roses and "spoil your valentine--i heart him, i heart her..." on and on and on??? IT'S NOT EVEN FEBRUARY YET!!!!!!!! I think the advertising companies seem to start earlier and earlier with all the holidays every year. They're just waiting for the day where every single moment in the year can be spent advertising for a holiday--right from Halloween to Thanksgiving to Christmas to New Years to Valentines Day to Easter to St Patrick's day and whatever on and on and on.
I've been on an Eva Hesse kick--she's my new obsession of the moment. It's incredibly frustrating how much her art has been devalued and trivialized in content by the way critics insist on framing her--as another "tortured, tragic female artist"--the Sylvia Plath of the art world, when that is not at all who she was. Her art certainly reflected her life, but she made tragedy and weight ridiculous and funny, yet with serious artistic skill. I looooooooove the way her studio looks-- like some sort of alien colony or something:

Ok I suppose I've rambled enough. Off to finish some reading and start on a fun project of sorts. I picked up some fun pieces of decaying ceiling from the music building trashcans that I need to do something with. They're cracking and crumbling white dust onto my floor as I type.
Up up and awaaaaaaaaaaay!
