The Secret

It had an interesting message. I'll have to go back and watch it again.  Towards the end it seemed a bit longer than necessary.  It was easier to understand than  "Bleep..."  Certainly worth watching and if anyone in my area wants to borrow it, let me know.  If you want your own, you may want to watch the $5 version on the internet first to decide ( Read more... )

Feeling rather stupid, but I don't know either of these movies/shows you're talking about! Enlighten, please ...

Please don't feel stupid. Both movies are spiritual self-help movies which try to explain the universe and our roles here. A more enlightened way of thinking. Some find them inspirational and some think they're a bunch of hooey. I really liked "What the Bleep Do We Know" and had heard about "The Secret."

I wish this friend hadn't told me that it was debunked with a sneer on his face while rolling his eyes, because really, what does it hurt to watch the movie and take what I want out of it. So what if it's real or not; if I choose to believe it...

I thought What the Bleep was very interesting. The presence of JZ Knight really put me off, though. I've not seen the other one.

Hi Alicia!

I'm just curious...why did JZ Knight put you off? I actually know nothing about her...except what I just googled. So, dahling, what's the dish?

I did not know that Bleep was debunked!!! Damnit!!! Funny you should bring this up because I brought Bleep to work with me yesterday so that I could listen to it while I worked. It really helps to motivate me...

I liked The Secret, but prefered Bleep because I love the awesome Marlee Matlin (and her storyline).

...don't jump to conclusions!...nobody has said 'yes it was', so it could simply be rumour...that always happens around anything controversial...

Nah...it's been debunked. After I posted here, I did a little googling and came up with a bunch of articles debunking it. I have only skimmed them because I LIKED the movie and don't want to end up not liking it because of that.

:::rose colored glasses super glued onto nose:::

Here's the salon.com article that really takes the movie to task:

...nah, I think it's just opinion, and not fact...to me, the ramtha chick was the CLEARLY LEAST EVOLVED person there, except for the guy who wrote the book that was against gays and somehow involved judaism (geez, I forget his name, but you can find it somewhere)...some of the others were extremely insightful, and so I think it's a matter of take what you want and find inspiring, and don't bother to waste energy on negative people and thoughts...*shrug*...I'm tibetan buddhist clergy, and the stuff in the film is old news...there's a very serious and scholarly tibetan book on meditation called Walking Through Walls, and believe me, if you meditate properly, you can literally do it...mind does everything, and life just follows...ahahaha!

I personally liked The Secret, although my husband, the eternal skeptic, hated it. He did some research on each of the cast members and found that they are all either motivational speakers or authors of get-rich-quick books (read: charlatans). I thought the production value of the movie was very cheesy - trying too hard to be like the DaVinci Code, but I liked the overall message. I haven't seen What the Bleep.

Yup...that's probably what turned me off the most (the cheesy production)...though, like you, I liked the message of the movie!

Oh, me too. I didn't want to be disapointed but the cheesyness got to me.

Ive been wanting to get the movie, but the $30 price tag for a DVD is a bit irksome, especially given the cheesy reviews.
