 [There's a dark haired man with an amused look on his face sitting on the front step of the temple. Knife in hand, he goes about sharpening the blade in a lazy, well-practiced motion. His attention however, is on his dog, Hound, who has managed to round up a small herd of capybara and is in the process of moving them around the area.

Sounds like a reason to me, but more of a reason for the dog than for you.

It stops him from eating my boots. Guess it works out for both of us.
