 [There's a young man with a bored expression wandering aimlessly outside the temple. Behind him waddles a capybara, which seems intent on following Seth wherever he goes. Ignoring the creature doesn't seem to be working, and Seth glances back over his shoulder to growl at his unwanted companion.]

[over by the cluster of artichokes, there's a young red-headed woman sitting on the front steps of one pod, playing tug-of-war with another capybara]

[The young woman catches his gaze and for a moment, Seth pauses to watch her. There is no humor in his expression, and again his brow creases.]

You look way too happy to be here, girlie.

[Dry tone is dry. Ain't he a charmer?]

[she looks up when she hears the voice, and seeing that it's directed at her, flashes him a grin]

If I were way too happy to be here, I'd look like this.

[and she exaggerates the grin all the way up to eleven]

[He says nothing, merely quirking an eyebrow as he watches the smile elevate.]

Point taken. Now you just look retarded.

[Seth shrugs and idly nudges his capybara with his foot.]

How long you been here?

[she snorts lightly as she tussles with her own capybara, pulling on her end of the stick it's got in its teeth]

A month? Maybe a little longer.

[How content she appears to be baffles him, but he does not show it save for the return of his frown.]

[Now that gets his attention. Seth shoots the woman a curious look.]

[she lets the capybara have the stick; it settles down to worry at it and she wipes her hands off on her thighs]

I mean dead. As in, I-was-shot-with-a-laser-gun-and-I-died dead.

[a thoughtful pause]

Guess I wasn't brain dead yet, though.

So what then. You miraculously revived when you turned up here?

[Unless this is some kind of screwed up afterlife... He smirks.]

[He wrinkles his nose for good measure.]

[she narrows her eyes at him, as if to say 'yeah, real funny']

Noooo, my friend put me in stasis. I had just been let out when I ended up here.

How does stasis save you from a gunshot? Where I'm from, if someone dies, they stay dead.

[Unless Green Mother decides otherwise, but he can't be sure if he died for real or not so he doesn't say as much.]

I used to think that, too.

[her expression goes still for a moment]

I was put in stasis in a box designed to be the ultimate prison. You couldn't escape it even by dying. So it kept me at 'mostly dead' until little me could come along, give it a scan of my DNA, and heal me. [a corner of her mouth screws up I think I got that right. My friend wasn't really... specific-y.

[He listens while she speaks, expression one of vague interest but disbelieving all the same.]

[Seth taps a finger to his temple.]
