For Sagramore

Nov 21, 2007 00:48

He isn't going to hurt him.  Morgause asked him not to, and he isn't.  He had said so.

But Lamorak cannot help it.  He finds himself seeking out the other knight, because he needs to know.  Even though he doesn't really want to.

Sagramore is tired and looking slightly worn--the frequency of his seizures lately has taken its toll. He's also still very irritated with Lamorak, and the idea of getting into a fight is not wholly unappealing.

As usual, he's on the porch with his coffee, easily found by anyone looking.

"Sir," he says, stiff but not hostile.

"Sir," abruptly. "Well, how did it go with my lady Morgause?"

"Is it your business, sir?" And it seems for the moment to be a legitimate question, if a guarded one.

"Yes. It is. She was my lady, to a certain point."

"Was she?" He squares his jaw a bit. "When was this?"

Sagramore looks at him a moment, and then says, and he will never know why, "Up until you came. She thought you were lost, she took up with me. She left me as soon as you arrived. I'll do my damnedest to win her back, however you like."

"And so you attempt to take her from behind my back?"

"That's right. Honourlessly."

"Pray sir, don't mock me. Not over this. I will afford you the same small courtesy."

"Oh, please, mock me as much as you like. I don't intend to use any good words over you."

He tenses, but controls himself. "Did you want her even back in Camelot?"

"I hardly knew her back in Camelot. I was her son's lover. Don't you remember?"

"I'd heard as much, but I didn't want to jump to conclusions. It's a bit unorthodox to jump into bed with the mother of one's lover. Or it is in Britain, at least."

"That's right. It's sheep in Britain, isn't it?"

"Maybe in Orkney. We aren't that hard pressed for women in Wales."
