Mostly for Eowyn

Should Eowyn come to the stables that day (which Lamorak guesses is a probable thing), she'll find a bunch of wildflowers and a note, in a fine hand, though with the creative spelling of his era. It reads:

Forgive my absence from our ride, my lady, but my brother needs assistance on his farm today. Please accept these by way of apology or, ( Read more... )

She does not know what to make of the letter or, more specifically, the flowers at first. But she decides ultimately to send word-- so he will know she received the letter, if nothing else. But with no good way of doing so, late in the afternoon, she makes her way down to the purple house in hopes of finding Lamorak, or someone to pass a message along to him.

By late afternoon, he is up in the loft, and he has mostly likely stripped down to jeans without a shirt, as it is summer and hot in the barn. She can hear him before she can see him, though, as he's whistling idly while he cleans.

She hesitates in the doorway for a moment before calling up to him, 'My lord?'

He appears at the top of the ladder. "...my lady Eowyn. Good day. Forgive my - one moment."

'Of course,' she says, a smile playing at the edges of her mouth as she turns politely away.

He pulls on his tunic, though there's not much he can do yet about the sweat. He climbs down the ladder and offers a small bow with a sheepish smile.

'I received your message,' she says simply. 'I wished to tell you so, and to assure you I demand no apology.'

"Ah. Well... it is most gracious of you to be so understanding."

'I think not, my lord. You are under no obligation to me. But I thank you for thinking of me,' she adds, more uncertain. 'And for the flowers.'

He smiles. "I'm glad of it." He hesitates, then says, "If you would like, I could clean up a bit, and then..."

She nods quickly-- too quickly, she thinks. 'Very well.'

"I won't be a moment. If you'd like to walk in the orchards, they're pretty this time of year."
