Alive again.

Lamorak stumbles out of the woods, barefoot and only half clothed in charred rags; apparently coming back to life will not fully restore burned clothing, and his hair is also burned in certain foul-smelling places. He's very cold, and very disoriented, and has a nasty scar on his throat. Maybe he's still dead. That wouldn't entirely surprise him, ( Read more... )

bloody hell, just when she was starting to relax.

Goewin has just come off Lamorak's hunting shift. She has got four cock pheasant slung over her shoulder, and has not lost any of the arrows that she arrived with last week, though one will need repointing. She aims a whole one carefully at this spectre, just to be on the safe side.

"Sir, can I help?"

He raises his empty hands, in the universal sign that he is unarmed. "Lady... if you could direct me to my brother Peredur's house, or even to the large estate... I would be in your debt." He's too cold to be much shamed yet at encountering her in his condition.

She points the bow at the ground, still ready to shoot if necessary, but not threatening.

"I know the way back to the house, yes."

Up until last week she lived under one roof with all five Orkney boys AND a twin brother--she is unblinking and matter-of-fact at Lamorak's being only half-dressed.

His physical condition is more worrying.

"Let you lean on my shoulder, if you will. I'll have to leave a couple of these birds, though. A moment--"

Kay will have my head, she thinks.

"I can walk, my lady, I promise you. I would loath have you loose your hunt."

She puts away the arrow. "If you faint on the way I won't be able to lift or catch you if I have not already your arm around my shoulder, and better lose a bird than a man."

He looks impressed. "Very well thought, my lady."

She says coldly, "Are you likely to faint?"

"I don't feel I am, but I suppose it's best to be safe."

Pestilence.

She's made the offer, and sticks to it. She loses two of the birds and beckons him with a nod of her head.

"You'll know your way from the big house?" And frowns. "You said your brother is Peredur? Has Peredur a brother?"

"Half brother. We had the same father." He comes over to her.

Huh. She can see that his protests were made out of bravado, or politeness, or embarrassment, or natural flirtatiousness or something, and he really could use the support. She holds out her free arm.

"Ugh, your hair stinks of scorch! What happened?"

we'd have offered him her cloak too, but she hasn't got one, and maybe he's already wearing Galadriel's, so we haven't.

"I'm not sure, to be honest. I was attacked, in the forest, a few nights past, but have no memory of fire." He takes her arm, lightly but gratefully.

T: Possibly! It's a timeline mess right now, so we'll just go with it.

"So long ago? It's a wonder you aren't frozen to death!"

He grimaces a bit, but he sees no point in being particular, so he just nods. As he didn't freeze to death, that's true.

"Now tell me your name, Peredur's brother. Who are you?" --and steadies him with her arm around his waist, as unselfconscious as if he were her brother.

T: I have missed you too! sorry I didn't catch your window of opportunity there. I will be sporadic this week and silent next...sigh

"Lamorak, of Galis. I'm Pellinore's son." And actually a legitimate one, which is remarkable for Pellinore. He steadies himself with an arm on her shoulders. "Did you meet my brother here, or know him back home?"
