I have been tuned into CSPAN2 all day, watching/listening to the GOP getting its ass handed to it on a fucking platter and enjoying every last second of it. Serves those fuckers right. After a year of dragging their feet, refusing to engage in the process, and obstructing obstructing obstructing, they're trying, at the final seconds of the game, to try to convince the American people to see their side of this and get the entire health care bill tossed out. Under the ruse of wanting a better bill, they're attempting to attach amendments that would require the whole bill go back to the House.
Horseshit.
The past 5 days have shown, in startling relief, what a miserable shattered wreck the GOP has become. The party is a stinking fucking disease-ridden corpse that should be dragged outside, doused with gasoline, and torched. Seeing them sit by and allowing all the shit go down- racial/homophobic slurs, death threats against members of Congress and their families, and the attacks on offices of Democrats.... they've lost any moral authority. The best we got was a luke-warm denunciation from Boehner using the qualifier most often used by men who beat their wives- "there's a lot of anger out there toward Democrats" (or something along those lines). Like that excuses these things. "Gosh, I didn't mean to kill her, but gosh darn it, she kept yapping at me."
Oh, and the little GOP tantrum this morning, refusing to go along with the usual and customary extension of the time for committee business. Real nice, considering high-ranking officers turned their schedules upside-down to fly in from Korea and Hawaii to appear before the committee. This is the party that tries to convince us that they care most about the security of our country, and they played fucking politics with our military commanders.
These tactics are transparent, and what we are getting is a lot of GOP muttering about reprisals for Democrats at the voting booth come November. If that's to happen, oh well. But once Americans get to see the benefits of this health insurance bill, they're not going to want to go back. Nobody's going to say "Hell, I miss the days where I could have been financially destroyed just because I got sick." or "Gosh, wouldn't it be swell if my cancer-surviving wife could be denied insurance coverage or have her policy ganked?"
To show just how brain-damaged the GOP has become, this is precisely what they want the American people to think. But if the electorate is stupid enough to believe that, well, then, that old chestnut that in a democracy, people get the government they deserve will ring truer than ever and validate every stereotype out there about Americans being stupider than a box of rocks.
