Crossover with Supernatural and DC Comics. Set within the pits of Hell, before Season 4 of SPN as the forces of Heaven march into Hell in order to save Dean Winchester and bring him back to life.
In the countless years of his existence Castiel was well aware of the dangers of Hell and knew many stories about the beasts and demons that lurked within those fiery pits. He had edged their entrances more than once (something Anael used to chide him for before she Fell) and studied their perimeters, finding all entrances and exits that he could make out and committing them to memory. In total, he had found nearly six hundred of such doorways by the time the order came for his garrison to march into the pits of Hell and save the Righteous Man.
Castiel had already forgotten by now how many days or weeks or years had passed since he first arrived and burst into the pits in a blaze of glory. He followed his brothers and sisters as they tore through Hell, killing as many demons as they could while scouring the place in order to locate the soul of the Righteous Man. Hell was nearly an endless place though, and fighting in the demons' home territory slowly but surely weakened their forces and their powers - now what seemed to be countless years later, they were all on the verge of being defeated and Castiel wondered if he was the next one to go.
He had been separated by accident from the other angel he had been with - Balthazar - a Hellhound having divided them while they were circling through an area of the pit. Now alone and lost, Castiel frowned as he attempted to retrace his steps, hoping to see his brothers and sisters again. Alone now he would be an easy target for the demons, and Castiel had no intention of failing his mission. Heaven could not afford it.
