[Koujurou/Masamune] let me count the ways

BECAUSE PORN MUST BE HAD. Still set in canon, a few more days after these string of events.

It all started with a realisation.

If anything, Date was going to blame that he had little else to do other than lounging around his futon and room because he was still recuperating from his wounds and injuries and by now he definitely knew better than to ( Read more... )

Kojurou, on the other hand, did not catch a whiff of Masamune's internal turmoil at all ( ... )

For the most part, Date did well to not bother his retainer about anything, instead opting to stay on his futon and lounging about while quietly appreciating the company that was with him. Now that things were pretty much back to normal between them, the younger samurai really didn't like the solitude that came when he was stuck in his room with little to do - at least like this, things weren't as bad. Or to be honest, this was just kind of great.

Though well as much as he wanted to, there was only so long Date could stand the silence for. Turning around so that he could face his retainer instead now, the warlord propped his head up just enough so that he could look over towards Koujurou busying himself with the papers, trying hard not to think how strangely nice the elder man looked when concentrating so intently on his task.

...right. Uh.

"Koujurou," he called out, after a moment's pause.

Masamune's voice immediately drew Kojurou out of the mess of words and data and aggravation.

"My lord?"

Date didn't respond immediately to that, instead opting to move himself closer to where the table (and Koujurou) was. He moved so that he was sitting right in front of it, and was silent as he looked at the elder man for a good few moments before he extended out his hand.

"Pass me some of those papers."

Kojurou only smiled and complied, saying nothing, returning to his work almost immediately. While he was adamant about Masamune resting as much as possible, he knew his master well enough to know that he had to occasionally give the younger man something to do. Masamune was restless as it was, and the last thing Kojurou needed was an irate young warlord on his hands.

Well, that certainly wasn't that all hard at all. Date grinned back in return, pleased to have his request followed and wasted no time in getting himself focused on his task of pursuing whatever that was written there. It had been a good while since he could touch any of these reports, and now that he had the chance the warlord was sure to make himself catch up with whatever had went on while he was (and was still) stuck in his room because of his injuries.

...And it was rather nice, seeing Masamune in good spirits. Kojurou buried his smile behind the sheaf of papers he was sifting through, and it wasn't long before he was back in Work Mode.

Somewhere along the line, the older man took to licking his thumb and using the moisture to turn the pages easier. The documents were rather old, and prone to sticking together or rumpling. He had to handle them with care.

And it just so happened that right at the moment Koujurou did that, Date had just taken his attention away from the papers right there and then with the intention to ask something.

"Hey Kouju--" the younger man started, only to stop abruptly as he saw that and his mind instantly blanked out before he knew it. His words died somewhere between his throat and his tongue, and all Date could do was to simply stare at (the suddenly much more appealing sight of) his retainer.

That caught him in mid-lick. Kojurou blinked, dropping his thumb from his lips.

"What is it?"

He wondered, idly, over what had distracted his master from continuing his sentence.

Date blinked only when Koujurou spoke, taking a few more moments after that in order for his brain to work properly once again after that sudden abrupt stop.

"Ah, I--" he started, blinking again before quickly glancing down to look at his papers - just what did he want to ask again...? "--uh, just give me a moment, I think I have it here somewhere..." He just needed to recall what it was now.

That only puzzled Kojurou further; it was not like Masamune to be so absentminded. He did not comment, however, and waited for his master to finish.

The warlord scrambled a little in his head as he tried to remember just what exactly was it that he wanted to ask - his memory suddenly had seemingly decided to stop working on him all of a sudden, and that was really not helping at all with this situation.

Just where the hell was it-- Date thought with an annoyed hiss, flipping through the papers with a bit more strength than required as he attempted to find the correct page. Goddamnit, just how did he suddenly forget like that? This was all so seriously frustrating.

...Peculiar, indeed. And now Kojurou was just a little alarmed. Just a little.

"What are you looking for, my lord? Shall I assist?"

And he was already standing up to go over there.

"No, its fine--" Date returned, though of course that wasn't going to stop Koujurou from going over to his side. The younger man contiuned to stubbornly flip through the papers in order to recall what he wanted to ask while trying to not be horribly distracted with the warmth that his retainer was radiating, and the sudden closeness between the two of them.

Damnit, it wasn't as if this was the first time that Koujurou was this close to him - why was he being all so flustered?

Another curious look, and Kojurou was sitting down right beside his master, in order to scan the documents that he was looking at.

Perhaps it was a matter of pointing out some of the more vague figures, or maybe he had found some discrepancy somewhere...

And when Koujurou was right beside him like that and being so focused on his task, Date couldn't help but notice things that he hadn't really taken notice before - the somewhat broad shoulders (which he also distinctly remembered having put his arms around before when he was younger during piggyback rides), the lines on his face, the eyebrows and those eyes now narrowed in concentration...

Date just barely managed to restrain himself from doing anything wholly foolish and rash as he pointedly looked at the papers in his hands--finally, there was the goddamned bit he had been seeking.

"Here, this bit," the younger man quickly went as he pointed towards said bit. "I don't think this bit's too clear for the record."
