Because it is Date's birthday and he totally needs a log to celebrate it, yes. Once again, set in the world of theskytides with that AU of Hijikata being taken under the Oshu clan, a month or two down the road after this log.

He is so disappoint, he moves to a new comment. :T itsadate October 18 2010, 01:13:45 UTC
And it was only then that Date looked at him, eyes pained by the outburst, the denial more painful than the last.

"Please."

Hijikata stopped when he saw that look, effectively stopped in his tracks right there and then. He really didn't even do anything - why did Date even think of him like that anyway - but those eyes...

"Sir, I..." he tried again. "I swear to you, nothing happened at all. Takagi-san just brought me to her embroidery shop and she helped me with making your present." And pricked his fingers one too many times in the process, as the notable amount of band-aids around his digits would prove.

The man's eyes drifted towards those fingers, taking note of the bandages on it. Those were not there earlier.

"Are you saying you sewed this kimono?"

The retainer quickly nodded in response. "I was told that the best gifts were the ones that you made yourself, so... that was what I did." He paused after that, and lowered his head a little more in a mix of shame and embarrassment (and some fear). "I-I'm not really good at things like these, so Takagi-san and the other workers at the shop helped me with it."

Another pause, and then he glanced back up at his lord, nervous and hopeful at the same time. "I-I hope you like it."

And the man's hand slid down the silk, feeling every thread embossed on the fabric.

"I didn't ask for this." More so, he didn't deserve this after everything he had said.

"Wha--of course you do!" Hijikata was quick to reply, taking just one step forward closer to his lord. "I-I mean, its supposed to be yours after all..."

"You didn't have to go through such lengths to give me something material as this." He didn't have to make him jealous and hopeless for a good while on his birthday.

The younger man lowered his head upon hearing those words, seemingly ashamed once again. "A-Apologies, Masamune-sama. I-I just wasn't sure what you'd want for your birthday..." He really didn't have an idea at all, to be honest - this yukata idea was given to him by Takagi in the first place and he just went with it.

"I only wanted to spend the day with you."

Hijikata only stared at Date for a good few seconds at that, finding himself at a complete loss of words.

"...w-with me, sir?"

"I don't like repeating myself, Hijikata." By now he was gazing back at Hijikata.

There was something about Date's gaze that made the retainer unable to properly turn away, and so Hijikata only felt his face and cheeks turning warm as he tried to avoid his lord's gaze.

"...I-I can stay here tonight to make up for it, if you wish," he returned, almost mumbling and fumbling his words out in embarrassment.

"I'm sorry." That was all he could say.

"Its fine, sir," Hijikata quickly returned. "It was just a misunderstanding, that's all."

...and if anything, he should have been the one to apologize for not having taken Date's own feelings into consideration in the first place.

A misunderstanding, huh. A lot would have been fixed had he called, had he gone closer, had he trusted on his lover and his sincerity.

"I have taken your kindness for naught." And that was unforgiveable for him. He should have had faith on his men.

"Ah, no, I--" the younger man started once more, not really quite sure what to say. "I-I should have asked you personally. I didn't know what you wanted and was still trying to surprise you, so..."

This was suddenly so very, very awkward.
