All this post-event apologizing and Kumbaya is making me sick. This city is sorely lacking in any sense of accountability. No, the forehead-scraping 'mea culpa's don't help your case, either. All that is is a way of flagellating yourself until you're so pitiful and obviously contrite that the poor suckers around you have no choice but to take you into their tender arms and forgive you.
It's bullshit.
What we need is some real responsibility. No, we aren't all just going to collectively forget what happened and move on. If you made an ass of yourself, you best own it. If you find yourself saying "no, it's okay, you weren't yourself" then cut it out. We aren't prison bitches being popsicled by the Animus. We're sentient, allegedly intelligent individuals with the ability to make our own choices, and are still accountable for them when brain-roofied by gods gone wild. Not holding people accountable for their actions just because they weren't themselves is worse than useless; it reinforces the idea that we can do whatever we want.
Every single person in this city has done something despicable under the influence. Forgive yourself and wash away those sins if it helps you sleep at night, but those buildings are still burnt and those bodies still broken. What good does "I'm sorry" do to the dead or the thoroughly fucked over? Will contrition or tears heal the wounds you woke up with or replace years of therapy your delicate snowflake ass will need from it?
No. And you shouldn't do yourselves the disservice of forgiving someone who hasn't paid for it just as thoroughly as they would if the event never ended.
Kirk out.
