[It is, as so many others, an underwater post overlooking an unusual panorama of the city. And, like so many others, it starts with the entertained face of its owner who rapidly backs off, revealing a transformation. In Sonja's case it's a set of long tentacles, two of them a good three feet longer than the others and very like a squid. For ( Read more... )

[Crossing her arms and wagging a tentacle at the camera like a disapproving finger.]

Come on. I showed you mine. Where are your manners?

Is it that important?

I'll wither and die without the chance to laugh at you.

But don't worry- not with you.

That'd be interesting to see.

Just whip it out, Sam.

I'll make it easier. Pretend you're at a playground.

Unlike you I don't have an affinity for children.

[He shifts anyway so she can see more of him, revealing the dorsal fin protruding from between his shoulder blades and the very top of his lower half. The pitch black was contrasted by streaks of stark white.]

[Excuse her, she has to laugh now.

And laugh.

....And laugh.]

Any time, Sammy boy. [S-So entertained.]

So, let's see if you have the teeth to match.

[He just gets a little tight lipped at the nick name.] Don't call me Sammy. [You haven't earned that yet.]

Why, do you?

[She sort-of smiles, revealing entirely normal teeth.]

No, and my tears could salt the ocean. But squid don't really have jaws like orcas do. Come on- let's see. I'd be crushed if this place only gave you the ridiculous adaptations and none of the deadly ones.

[He sighed before giving her a smile. And lo and behold, there they were. The teeth of an Orca scaled for a human mouth.]

They're great for tearing things apart, if you haven't heard.

[She leans in, absolutely fucking fascinated. There's an odd glint in her eye.]

Another girl here has been turned carnivore in the water. Do you feel it, too?

[He raises his eyebrows. Either this girl was a sociopath or she wasn't human.]

I...didn't.

Huh. Interesting. [She leans back again; it's the glint of a scientist who's seen something he can't keep his hands off of, or someone thirsty to learn and see more. It's not explicitly inhuman.]

The transformations are inconsistent. Some people have urges that go with their ridiculous adaptations, and some clearly don't. [She gestures at the PCD, at him, with a tentacle casually.] That must make salads a bitch to eat.
