today i had the most fun ive had in a long god damned time.
on my american government final, i was asked the question for 120 points out of 300, what would i change about the government.
holy shit that was fun.
first i said take away electing the president from the people and give that power to congress. then i said x5 the number of congressional districts so that the house of representatives would have 2175 members instead of 435. then i said double the senate side and change their election style to a parliamentary one, giving near accurate representation of every party that gets votes. the shakeup of congress would provide the single most accurate representative body in the history of mankind as each congressional district would only be 1/5 the population of the current ones, that is to say that instead of having only two in our state we would have ten: manchester would have its own representative, and so would amherst/bedford, hollis/brookline would have its own and so on. the representatives would be people everyone knew.
then i said take appointment process away from the president (minus the cabinet and the departments s/he works with ie state, defense, etc.) rather giving positions of seniority based on performance and efficiency, much like a business to ensure that the people in power did their job and did it better than anyone else out there. a technocracy if you will (by technocracy i understand each aspect of government being handled by experts in those fields)
neuter the bureaucracy, but give them the ability to propose bills for votes in congress
outlaw special interest groups, PACs and limit the amount of money spent on campaigns to no more than $1 million
then my favorite: sentence judicial activists to death.
keeps them from fucking with the constitution eh? actually i didnt write that last one, but it was tempting.
anyways, i realized that my passion is politics, and i need to have power to change the world.
im sticking with it. and im glad
