I've been writing music for a number of years, and I've never claimed to do anything outside of the instrumental realm. As a matter of fact, I've pretty much had to scream it from the mountaintop that I'm not a singer and I'm NOT a rapper! But yet...every freaking day I get asked if I wanna buy somebody's beats.
Now, people are in the music biz to make money, I get it. Marketing yourself - even to the point of whoring yourself - is a (sometimes) necessary evil. But is it that hard to know who you're marketing TO? Common sense should tell you that if you are going to offer your services to someone, you should try not to offer said services to someone who's doing the exact same thing, ESPECIALLY if they're better at it than you are. I mean, I don't claim to be the best at what I do, but some of the stuff I hear is just awful..as awful as I was when I first started. Even if the tracks were good (which some of them are), what the hell am I supposed to do with them???
I'd never try to sell a movie script to a screenwriter, especially if I'm not a good writer (which this entry has no doubt proven), so why sell beetz to a beatsmith?
