By now you know the backstory on these records I got recently (if not
click here). This one I'll keep short. Its an oddity: an LP on one of the many budget labels that popped up to cash in on the then new craze called Rock 'n Roll. I never saw this one before however 'nor heard of the label which (on the back cover) promises "The Finest Quality At the Lowest Possible Cost." <------ copy so good I couldn't make this up :-P
Its also hard to figure out which way is up for the cover. When angled this way (below) the record slot would be on the bottom but that is the only way you can see the odd drawing of a horn player with ravens. And then there is the image: when I think rock and roll, I think horn players and ravens, right? ;-P
Some of the versions on this aren't half bad actually (well, about half of them aren't half bad -- the others are fairly heinous, but that is the fun part of hearing these things). So I'm curious to find out who recorded these versions and whether there was anyone who went on to later fame. People like Lou Reed, for example, did a number of budget recordings in the 60s under other names. So these are kinda curious. The label credits the songs to "Leading Artists of Radio and TV." Anyone have any clues?
