I'm going to begin this entry with how Dead Moon is the greatest band I have ever seen, then I'll go into the details of Chicago, to an extent.
Going to a Dead Moon show is experiencing punk rock in the most purest form possible. You are watching 3 people, over the age of 50 play the most intense songs. The way they present themselves is so anarchic and genuine. They sound exactly the way their records do, but more beautiful, and louder. They are all lined up at the front of the stage with Andrew, the drummer in the middle, which is cool, cos usually the drummer isn't up front and center. Toody was to his right, and Fred was on the left. There is something so cool about the fact that Fred Cole was wearing a Dead Moon pin, belt buckle, and shirt. The fact that they play the most sincere punk rock 'n' roll and don't sound anything specifically except for Neil Young a little bit, the fact that they are putting out good records after being together so long, it all blows my mind. When I was talking to Nate about Dead Moon last weekend he told me he cried because it was so beautiful and I laughed cos the only time I've ever cried was at an Everclear concert when I was 14 because I was the most miserable adolescent ever. But I ended up crying this weird crying type thing during "It's OK" which was the most beautiful thing I've ever heard. Oh god this might have been the gayest paragraph I've written, quite possibly ever, but it's all true.
Anyways. The Oblivians killed. The setlist killed. Hearing "Live the Life" with Quintron on organ was amazing, and so was closing the set with "Feel Real Good." Other bands that destroyed were Kill the Hippies (such honest straight-forward punk and clean HC,) Carbonas (obviously,) Mind Controls (BBQ has one of my favorite r'n'r voices,) Demons Claws (mindfuck,) and weird to say it, but Live Fast Die had one of my favorite sets of the weekend. Not that I'm surprised that I love that band, cos I always do, but they played their set about twice as fast as normal, and Piero doing "Webshits and Blablablas" was kind of really hilarious and amazing.
I had a blast. I don't want to live in New York anymore.
