Thanks to
sassymonkey and
crepeslisette , I am thousands of songs richer than I was before my NYC trip. There are a lot of kinks to work out with all the files. First is deciding what to keep. I'm basically dumping anything that isn't a full album. Next, I'm importing into Itunes, which I just emptied of everything. I won't go into specifics, but I tried using an AAC/MP3 converter and the program kept bombing out on me. Itunes tags some of the shit with album art, but after converting from AAC to MP3, I'm having to go back in with Media Monkey and manually tag. I hate the way Itunes puts shit as compilations that aren't (re: Lush albums, the Shangri-Las, etc.). I think it's looking at composer or something and deciding then. Not really sure. Next, when converting Itunes blew up my custom MP3 variable bit conversion rate to 320kbps on most songs, which doubles them in size in some cases. I'm now probably going to have to buy two 500GB hard drives (I currently have to 320GB drives in a mirror and I'm down to less than 50GB available).
After all of this, I will have well over 30,000 songs. That's still not close to
pinkfrank , I'm sure.
Apple, can you please increase an IPODs capacity to over 160GB? Thanks!
Merging my music with sassycrepes has been fantastic, as their leanings are close to mine, but it really fills in the gaps where I wasn't collecting (1990s) and is exposing me to tons of things I've never heard before. There isn't too much duplication and it's usually in the 4ad and factory realm. This is all very exciting!!!
Since I'm sick, I can work on this project all weekend without feeling too much guilt.
