so, hit me with it

Hey, get used to a good drubbing, too, for your own part, if you want to pick up this charge of standing against the tide. Everyone has to face some sort of criticism. The question is, what will yours be?

This is a little strange to me. I've turned masochistic with some of my writing. From my writing peers, those I have confidence in, I want to hear the hard stuff. I want to know the flaws of my story, I want them to nail me with it. Forget the fluff and the rest of the sandwich, just tell me where it's broken.

But critics? What in the world will that be like?

I've heard some writers advise to veer away from the critics. Ignore them, it will do you no good. But I like WM's advice better.

I recently had an experience with a writer reading my work. She nailed one flaw of my story, which I knew. But that's all she talked about. She praised several things, but her manner left me wanting. I didn't feel she was taking it seriously enough and so I find it hard to take what she had to say serious.

So, if you are to critique me, take me serious first.

Or else you're just more fluff.
