There is a spot on Sonia's running route where she slows down to a brisk walk. Not that she runs the entire route, but if she hasn't slowed down yet, she makes it a point to do so at that particular spot. That's when she lets all of the thoughts she's been holding back for the last thirty minutes or so tumble out of confinement ( Read more... )

Kathy follows Sonia in. "So, I've heard something about you working for Two-Face...?"

"Yeah, well..."

She needs something to drink. Kathy mentioned coffee. She heads to the kitchen.

"Technically, I'm not working for Two-Face. I work for Harvey Dent. And I don't even want to know how you found that out."

Kathy snorts. "Harvey Dent's alter-ego isn't a deep dark secret, Sonia," she replies. "And you get paychecks from him every two weeks."

"Yeah, okay," Sonia says. "You know that it's weird that you keep track of where my paycheques are coming from, right? Because that's weird."

Coffee's on. Sonia takes a drink from a water bottle before she continues.

"Anyway. He's just Harvey Dent now."

Kathy lets out a mock-sigh. "I know. I'm so tragically misunderstood." She smiles and winks at Sonia. "Glad to hear that some people do get better in Gotham." She moves closer. "So... any good gossip?"

"Oh, yeah," Sonia says, dripping sarcasm. "My social life's just jumping. You know me, I'm a real people person."

She grins a little back at Kathy.

"Something tells me you could give me more in that department than I could give you."

"Oh, you know," she smiles, "I keep going back to the salad bar of men. Sometimes I want something strong, and sometimes I want some brain-food." She winks. "But there's no one currently." She beams as she recalls one amusing moment, but she never even pauses in her speech. "Though Roxy and I got to embarrass a very good-looking former porn-star by making him sit through one of his movies with us and a couple of his friends."

Sonia chuckles, then grows tentative again.

"How's Roxy doing?"

She beams. "She's seeing someone. Some guy who owns a bar in New York. I haven't met him yet, but I will."

"I have no doubt," Sonia says.

Inwardly, she breathes a little sigh of relief.

"I'm glad you two are doing okay."

"Of course we are," she winks. "We've been working with some of the flying rodent's friends... Roxy's working close with Hawkman, actually, and wants to introduce me to him. I've got a new costume these days."

Sonia blinks.

"A new costume? Kathy..."

She trails off, but there's a note of protest in her voice.

"Well, Bat-ass didn't want me to use the old one, so I thought, 'fuck him,' and I made a new one. And believe it or not, Sonia, it may have been your idea, but no one made either Roxy or me put it on. It was our choice."

"Yeah, but..."

She bites her lip. Coffee's ready, so she turns to pour it. She doesn't speak again until she's handing the cup to Kathy.

"It's dangerous, Kathy. You know that. Not to mention illegal."

"Yeah, yeah," Kathy sighs, waving her hand in a dismissive gesture, "illegal and dangerous. But you know as well as I do that I'm limited in how I can help without it. Besides, facing off with Wal-Mart shoppers over the last Tickle-Me Elmo doll is more dangerous."

That gets a chuckle.

"That's true. Just be careful, okay?"
