Ummm... so, yeah... Is once a week good enough for updating?

I called the church that Chris has been going to to find out about the pre-marriage class thingy. Apparently, the way they do it in the Archdiocese of Newark is "Pre-Cana Conferences." Six hours, one day. The next one that is being held at Chris' church is March 2006, but we can go to any of them. You don't have to go to one in the ame parish as the one in which you will be married, so we can go whenever...

Still obsessed with the wedding planning thing, I know I have a lot of time still, but I figure the more I get figured out now, the less I have to worry about as the actual date nears. Right now I have two conflicting ideas of receptions, neither of which involves loud DJs or dancing. But, Chris really wants to do the "Couple's first dance" thing... We'll have to see how that works out... maybe we'll just have to get a band with a sound system that we can jump on with the two songs (he also thinks the father-daughter dance is a good idea - it won't make or break the reception for me).

So, Idea #1: Late morning ceremony, brunch reception. I'm picturing patio and table service, light meal, string quartet (or some other version of live, quiet-ish music). These receptions tend to be cheaper because caterers can double-book themseplves for the day. At least that's the theory... Light on alcohol, because it's brunch, and plenty of time for people to get home at a reasonable hour.

Idea #2: Afternoon/evening ceremony, Irish pub reception. Ceilidh band (or Emerald Rose, but I think it would be a little out of our budget to fly them up from Atlanta...), Guiness on tap, Scotch and Whisky. Rough hewn tables and bench seating. Might be a little crowded, but that's part of the idea. We would need to find near-by hotels for people to stay, and possibly transportation for the revelers....

Neither of these ideas involves pieced-together wooden dance floors, too-loud DJs, or music I hate. Definitely positive things. Chris, of course likes Idea #2 better, but I think that's the more expensive one...

Right now, we're going to go to Staples and see if we can get more media shelves for our paperbacks....
