So . . . we moved. The movers came on Wednesday while I was on my first day of new job training. I drove up from Providence and stopped at the new place but couldn't get in because I had a badly cut key so I continued on to work where I met everyone (finally) and we spent about 7+ hours going over our student population, teaching, etc etc. When I got home around 5:30 TJ was here with all our stuff. Jasper had pooped himself in the car (in his carrier) and TJ had given him a quick bath but was trying to juggle movers, the cable guy and a poopy cat. Jasper got another bath when I arrived home! We got a little unpacking done Wednesday night but we were both exhausted and I had reading to do for day 2 of training. I set off again in Thursday morning for another full day of training. We had a couple of hours with an Asperger's expert which was really fascinating. I also sort of know what I am teaching. I have Group 1 (a mix of 12th and 11th graders) for history and I can teach anything I want. I have group 2 (11th and 10th graders) for English, group 3 (10th and 9th graders) for comparative religion, and group 5 (the little ones in 6th and 7th grade) for Literature. I'm going to do mythical creatures and fantasy lit with them! I htink it's going to be very interesting.
We're trying to unpack today and I am on stolen wireless because even though the cable guy came on Wednesday and hooked everything up, the internet doesn't work. We called yesterday and the tech was useless and was supposed to send someone out today. Turns out he never submitted the order so when we called today they said they couldn't get anyone here until tomorrow. Arg!
On a lighter note, I thought I started teaching on Monday but I don't. We have orientation on Wednesday, students and parents coming in for a picnic on Thursday and a partial day without a full complement of students on Friday so we don't really get started until Tuesday. This is good for our students since many of them have issues jumping right in - they do better with one toe at a time.
Mo has already been running up and down the spiral staircases. On Wednesday night he was about to walk out on one of the beams attached to the loft space: heart attack # 1!! The beam is about 12 feet up and crosses the dining space - it would be like kitty balance beam! He's excited about all the space I think since he goes on mad dashes around the place. Jasper is more restrained, preferring to sleep and investigate the fridge.
We got a new toilet in the powder room today because the old one ran constantly. Exciting. Still and ugly beige color.
Political note: John McCain stated recently that he thinks the "rich" are only those making over 5 million . . . and he doesn't remember how many houses he owns! Obama gave a more realistic $250,000.
