Well now...

It is chilly today.  I don't much like that.  It's the middle of July for heaven's sake!

But anyway....

I adopted a kitten today.  Her name at the humane society was Sasha.  I've changed it to Abbie.  Earlier in the week, I had been in to look for a kitten and filled out an application to adopt a light gray kitten named Abby.  She was so interactive when I had gone in, and I fell in love.  They called me the next day and told me that she and her brother were very sick when they got in that morning, and they had to euthanise (I think I spelled that wrong) them.  I was really sad.  I went back yesterday to look again and found Sasha.  I decided to name her Abbie in memorial.  :)  But I changed the spelling from a y at the end to ie.  So now I have Allie & Abbie.  Cute, huh?  Abbie is dark gray with white spots on her neck and belly.  SO cute.  I brought her home all excited for Allie to have a friend, and Allie was TERRIFIED.  Abbie started walking toward her and Allie kept backing away, and her ears were flatted against the top of her head and then she hissed.  I couldn't believe it!  Maybe I'm naieve, but I thought she would like to have a friend!

I called the humane society right away because if this is going to be a problem, Abbie will have to go back.  But they said that it takes a couple of weeks for them to get used to each other and they should be fine.  I was looking through the goody bag they give you after you adopt a pet, and the pamphlet about cats was actually helpful about what to do to help them get used to each other.  Before I even looked at that, I bolted to the Dollar Store and bought a second litter box and food/water dish.  The pamphlet said to keep them in separate rooms with their own stuff until they have time to get used to each others' scents.  So I have Abbie closed in Amber's room/computer room.  And Allie still has free reign over the rest of the house.  It also said that even if the cats don't become friends, they will eventually learn how to live together civilly......*crosses fingers*

In other news, last week, I ordered the first 3 Harry Potter movies on DVD.  We have 1 & 3 on the DVR (but it's the one we don't use any more because it's not HD.  It's hooked up in Amber's room, though).  Amber has 2 here on VHS, and we have 4 & 5 here on DVD.  I thought it would be nice to have them all on DVD, especially since the ones on the DVR have commericals, which means they're also cut for TV viewing.

Scott is in Danville at the hospital with Amber, so I think I'm going to start watching them sometime this evening.  I want to see them all again before I go to see the new one.  Although...at this rate, I may end up just waiting until it comes out on DVD!

Well...that's all for now.  I have a paper to write and I'm getting hungry.  Not to mention that I should try to see if I can get Abbie to come out from under Amber's dresser....
