semi-conscious ramblings of a somniloquist #20

it's been a while. this one is dark and kind of interesting.

twilight. i find myself in a building with a lot of glass walls. for some reason i'm in close quarters with wilhelmina slater and some of her team of devilish schemers. she's hired a new assistant and he doesn't seem very good at speaking up for himself.

i hear, through word-of-mouth i suppose, that wilhelmina is planning on getting a kidney transplant and has one of her new assistant's kidneys in mind. after a little investigation i've seen from the woman herself that it's true, and i'm disgusted at how nefariously she's taken advantage of her hapless assistant. i'm stomping about in some private rage. another one of her toadies, whom i recognize from high school, is coming my way down a long glass-walled hallway and i accost her, demanding a halt to the operation right away.

"you're talking to the wrong person, mister. besides, who do you think you are?" she replies angrily. "you don't understand any of what's going on here. stay out of our business."

i realize that my outburst was unnecessarily but i'm too indignant to back down.

"she's disgusting. you're all sick," i spit out. she gives me an condescendingly annoyed look and walks away.

i'm left to cool down for a bit and realize that i've embarrassed myself and that i did in fact pick the wrong person to confront. come to think of it, i really didn't understand the nuances of the power play going on. i finally decide not to bother changing the way things are done around here and bitterly walk out of the building, not looking back.

unfortunately, i remember that i've left my watch somewhere in the operating room. i sneak in sheepishly, avoiding the stoic gaze of wilhelmina, who is presiding over the surgery. as the first blood is spilled i realize that the watch has been around my wrist the entire time and slink out of the facility.
