There's a legislative effort in Arizona to allow guns in public schools and universities. Specifically, the proposed law would allow those persons with state-issued concealed carry permits to carry weapons at school. You need to be 21 to get such a permit in Arizona, so this would mean teachers and staff (not students) in K-12 schools, and some students in the universities.
I'm all for it, of course. Hell, I would get rid of the permits, and let anyone carry concealed.
Relatedly, I think it's a good idea to think about what you will do in a madman shooting situation at your school or workplace. Case your classrooms and note whether the doors can be locked from the inside. If not, think about how you would barricade the door or escape through the windows. Also think about how you might attack the shooter -- maybe throwing a desk at them could work, for instance. In any case, innocent life must be protected, and it's worth thinking about how you would handle such situations from a tactical standpoint.
