Still at the school with the deaf kids! It's really nice, tiring. 5 year olds are very very cute but they have the attention span of a goldfish, enjoy getting grubby and constantly want to get their grubbiness on you, run around like crazy, but are still less wearing than kids in secondary school because you're not getting the rude teenager (or gang member) attitude all the time and you are not in danger of getting stabbed. All the Reception kids want to do is have fun and they mostly smile all the time. It really doesn't feel like work just to tell kids to share, play nice, and wash their hands, while playing games with them. I'm not going to be able to go back to secondary, I'll get too used to the easy life! :P
The only thing that I was really grossed out by, including helping kids with wiping their bottom, was some playdough the kids have. It's so soft and squidgy and it falls to bits and sticks everywhere and smears and it's really hard to get off and I had to help several kids wash it off their hands and one to clean it off their shoe and it made me really nauseous. I felt like I wanted to vomit.
Next week, they want me to go to the beach. So it seems they still want me around for now. Though I think accompanying 30-odd children to the beach, some with special needs, is going to be a harrowing experience!
