Turkey phase 3

May 21, 2009 00:31

Last couple of days I've learned how to weave a rug on a loom, how to flip someone off (from a little boy I refused to give a lira to), how they tie a headscarf in the black sea region, and how to count to 21 in Turkish.
Yesterday we went to three mosques, and heard all five calls to prayer in several different towns, and the bus almost left me behind twice because I wandered off to take pictures. I cant stand being spoonfed all these photos, and I hate taking the same pictures as two dozen other people so I had to travel to find them. The subjects are never not beautiful.
I've learned that squat toilets are not in fact a joke, and used them when necessity took over my squicked-out ness.
I saw a massive snake in a cave, and had to control my natural piss and run instincts.
I've learned that Turkish ice cream and pizza is kickass, and nothing like it is in the states. Also I think I have a new favorite liquor in Raka.
Also Turkish music videos are far superior to American if only for the bright coloredness and constant movement ("this is a talky people!" style)
Just a short rundown of my recent activities.
