Weekend ponderings

Busy weekend over here, so I'll post what I can and update later.

Thursday I planted a bunch of letterboxes in Vestal.  I've decided to do a series on our favorite restaurants, and just haven't found the time to get them carved.  With Rae in "saran wrap" mode, I can put her down to play next to me and work on a stamp.  I got 3 done this week.  And we planted them Thursday after dropping Molly off at school.   I'm sure I'll be carving others to go along with these this week, too.

So Friday we're taking Molly to her game, and I see two local letterboxers retrieving one of the boxes.  So we pull over to chat (and get a cup of coffee).  While they're looking and I'm chatting, we find a 35mm film canister.  Being nosey, I open it up.  Find a razor blade, crack tubes, and other various drug paraphenalia.  Lovely.  So I take it to the restaurant it's located in, and the girl working will call the owner to let her know.  Her husband is a NY State Trooper.  Good place to hide your stash, huh???  But I'm glad I found it, rather than some kid poking around.

Yesterday was the Finger Lakes letterboxing gathering.  Headed up to Ithaca for the day to meet and greet other letterboxers.  Had a lot of fun reconnecting with some of the people who share this unique hobby, and meeting a lot of new ones.   I even carved a stamp for Rae, and in order to get it the person had to ask her for it.  If she smiled or did something cute, they got it.  Everyone had a good time getting her not only to smile, but to giggle as well.  After the gathering, we did a VERY minimal amount of shopping (I got a case of mechanical pencils for work for $5.  That was my big purchase), and found a letterbox in Target at the Ithaca mall.

Not sure what we're doing today, being Father's Day and all.  The girls and I went to the nursing center to have breakfast with Dad yesterday.  They put on a beautiful meal for the male residents, and invited up to 4 family members per resident.  They had a buffet of pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, and home fries.  It was very good, and Dad enjoyed having the company for breakfast.  Mark's up in the air about what to do.  I haven't picked up his gift yet, but am going to look at Lowe's when we go.  Molly wants to get him an Empire Apple Tree, which is something he's mentioned wanted to put on the property for a while now.  Just need to find one in my price range.  I also mentioned eating out and/or going geocaching.  Which could easily dovetail into letterboxing, but it doesn't have to if he'd rather not.

Off to start the day now.  Will post later if anything interesting happens
