Forgive the somewhat fevered rambling..
This book....
This book was written for me.
It wouldn't have meant so much to me if I'd read it at any other time.
Fate is ka. Ka is a wheel. The wheel turns.
This meeting between the characters and Stephen King himself... it's so much like what I was planning for the end of the Drom Vard story. Saphire would come to me, to Robin who called herself Dreamseeker, and...
Well, it doesn't matter, but it happened here. In a way I'm glad to see an accomplished author do exactly what I was planning, show that it can be written successfully.
All that Wizard of Oz stuff, which I wouldn't have cared about if I'd not read Wicked.
Time travel, reincarnation, parallel universes...
"There are other worlds than these."
Yes, these overlapping, alternate worlds, many almost identical to each other, and surely many others completely different... Infinite universes tied to each other in a web, creating each other, moving each other like the gears of a clock. The wheels of a clock. It's all precisely as I dreamed, and beyond.
I'm not quite finished reading yet. Been distracted. Still a little more in this book before I can start the last one. Actually I stopped right when King tells Roland to destroy the ball, Black Thirteen (XIII), and says "take the ball to the double tower."
All the other riddles and cryptic comments gave me pause, even the one that went "this is a thing that nothing is, and yet it has a name...", but that one struck me instantly. I simply can't think of anything else that would make sense. The centerpoint for the story on any recognizable version of Earth is New York, and they are about to jump forward in time to 1999. Perhaps they'll go a couple years more, or lock the orb up to wait for destruction.
Again, I feel these books are perfect for me. So many little things that spark personal familiarity, but perhaps they were designed to do that to readers of a certain type.
Even those towers hold a somewhat unusual meaning in my remembrance, not quite the same as most. If it is those towers. But then, under the circumstances, what else would it be?
Ka is a Wheel
This one's even got my name on it.
