I've been cooped up in the house the last few days with all this snow (about 8 inches have fallen since Thursday morning - I know it's not much by Minnesota standards, but I live in the Pacific Northwest. We like our precipitation wet, thank you very much). So I was very glad today to strap on the snowshoes and walk with Gus to the shopping center

I like alpine skiing, too, but for totally different reasons than snowshoeing. I haven't been skiing in several years, though - it's expensive and a bit of a hassle.

As per folks not knowing about snowshoes here on the Wet Side... It seems to me, being more accustomed to the east side of the state, Spokane area, and an outdoor recreation type woman, that the preferred winter outdoor sport here is snowboarding and alpine skiing. The snow can be not-all-that-conducive to snowshoeing and nordic skiing due to it's wet heaviness. And many many folks think those activities are just too much work and not enough excitement. I, personally, am an endorphin junkie as opposed to an adrenalin whore, cherish the quiet (which you described so beautifully in your post), and the solitude far more than the thrill on the slopes.
